Magnolia Water Sources announces new plans to upgrade and improve:
Waste Water
The Eden Isles collection system was in critical condition upon acquisition by Magnolia. The 36 lift stations all needed attention, with 17 requiring full rebuilds. In the next 9 months, customers should see the old lift stations and buildings demolished, with the new facilities relocated underground. The new facilities will be more aesthetically pleasing and prevent backups in customer’s homes. At the wastewater plant, there will also be significant changes. The gaseous chlorine disinfection system is a safety hazard for customers living near the plant and will be replaced in favor of sodium hypochlorite. A hydro sieve mechanical bar screen will be installed, improving plant performance. Lastly, the steel treatment basins will be rehabilitated.
Water
Upon acquisition by Magnolia, the water system had inadequate backup power, a hazardous disinfection system, and no flushing program. In the next year, Magnolia will replace the chlorine gas disinfection system that currently utilizes 1 ton cylinders for chemical storage. These cylinders are a significant safety hazard for any customer that lives within a mile of the plant. The new backup power system will include an on site generator with a quick connect, which will provide power immediately in the event of an outage. There will also be an automatic flushing plant implemented and multiple units installed throughout the distribution system. This will help eliminate stale water in the system and ensure the water that reaches customer’s homes is safe and odorless.
